Grahanyantaka Ghritam – Benefits, Dosage, Side Effects, Ingredients

Grahanyantaka ghritam is an Ayurvedic medicine, in herbal ghee form. This herbal ghee is made from It is used for preparatory procedure for Panchakarma and also as medicine, used in the treatment of  indigestion, bloating and acid peptic disorders. 

Grahanyantaka ghritam benefits: 

It is used as medicine and also in preparatory procedure called snehakarma for the treatment of many diseases pertaining gastro-intestinal tract.

It is mainly indicated in anorexia  indigestion and acid peptic disorders.

Effect on Tridosha – Calms Vata and Pitta

Grahanyantaka Ghritham dosage:
As medicine – quarter to half teaspoon with water, usually before food, once or twice a day, or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
For Panchakarma preparation – Snehana procedure, the dose depends on the disease status and the judgement of Ayurvedic doctor.

Grahanyantaka Ghrita Side Effects:
There are no known side effects with this medicine. However it is best to use this product under medical supervision. Self medication with this medicine is discouraged.
People with diabetes, high cholesterol, heart diseases and high BP should excise precaution.
In very high dose, it may cause burning sensation in stomach and diarrhea.

Water decoction prepared with
Patha – Cyclea peltata
Chavya – Piper chaba
Karanja – Pongamia pinnata
Pootikaranja – Pongamia glabra
Sharapunkha – Tephrosia purpurea
Agni – Plumbago zeylanica
Abda – Cyperus rotundus
Shunti – Ginger – Zingiber officinalis
Paste prepared with fine powder of
Saindhava – Rock salt
Panchakola –

  • Pippali – Long pepper – Piper longum
  • Pippalimoola – Long pepper root
  • Chavya – Piper chaba
  • Chitraka – Plumbago zeylanica
  • Nagara – Ginger – Zingiber officinalis

Ghee – Clarified butter
Sarjakshara
Yavakshara – Kshara of Hordeum vulgare
Hingu – Ferula asa foetida
Ambu – Cyperus rotundus
Jeerakadwaya

  • Jeeraka – Cuminum cyminum
  • Krishna Jeeraka  – Nigella sativa

Dipyaka – Carum roxburghianum
All the ingredients are heated till Ghrita is prepared.
